Harry Rogers

Alton Rogers passed from this life on December 24, 2017 at the age of 102.

He was born June 27, 1915 in Munday, Knox co. Texas to Alton Byrd and Susie Emma Johnson Rogers. Allen was a native of Big Spring, Texas since 1928. He married Opal Irene Mosley of Big Spring on February 7, 1934 in Stanton, Texas. Of this union were born two sons and one daughter. He was employed by Cosden Petroleum Refinery Company in Big Spring from May 1940 to 1977 earning the title of Craftsman A in the machine shop.

After retirement he and wife Opal enjoyed life with family and friends until Oct. 1984 after 50yrs and 8 months of marriage she passed away. To keep busy Alton turned to his longtime hobbies of fishing and hunting, gardening and house painting. He was a man always ready to meet the needs of family and neighbors dependable and optimistic. In 2010 he made the move to Elgin, TX to live with his oldest son. He was baptized in 2011 at the age of 96 years and was a member of the Lost Pine Church of Christ in Bastrop.

Alton is preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings (two brothers, 4 sisters), wife Opal Rogers, daughter Eddie Merle Hart-McCormick and former sons-in-law Clifford Hart and Jerry McCormick, daughter-in-law Marcia Rogers and one grandson-in-law Paul Kimberlin.

Surviving members are two sons Doyle Rogers of Elgin, Texas and Curtis Rogers of Colorado City, Texas. Seven grandchildren; Waymon and wife Jacque Rogers of Elgin, Patricia (Rogers)Kimberlin  of Taylor, Texas, Teela Hart Holsenbeck of Big Springs, Texas, Clifford Arvin Hart Jr., Jason McCormick, Staci Rogers of Lubbock, Texas and Gene Ray Rogers of Colorado City, Texas. Twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Last to miss Alton is former daughter-in-law Melba Rogers Speckels.

A viewing will be held  11:00 AM to 5:00 PM Wednesday, December 27, 2017, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery Big Springs, Texas.
