William A. Dunbar

William Alan Dunbar , age 70 of Bastrop, Tex., passed away on Sept. 11 while in a V.A. Medical Facility in Temple, Tex. from complications of C.O.P.D.

Alan was born at Fleming Hospital in Elgin on Oct. 12, 1947. The youngest child of Raymond and Ivy Dunbar. He grew up in Elgin and was a fifth generation Bastrop County resident.

Alan served three years in the U.S. Navy from 1965 through 1968 aboard the USS Ranger aircraft carrier in the Tonkin Gulf. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he became a plasterer apprentice and then a journeyman plasterer. He was a member of the Cement Masons Local #786 from 1971 until its demise in 1986.

Alan’s two sons John Dunbar of Austin, Tex. and Jay Dunbar of Cedar Creek, Tex. survive him, as well as Jay’s wife Melissa Dunbar. Also, four grandchildren Allison and Seth Dunbar and Evan and Shaun Guthrie.
