Walter John Smith

November 29, 1945 — May 27, 2019

Rev. Walter John Smith was born in Austin, Texas to the late Rev. James B. Smith Sr. and Mollie Smith. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age. He graduated from Anderson High School. He later joined the United States Army and National Guard.

Rev. Smith went to join Grater St. John Baptist Church where he became very active in many aspects of the ministry, such as music ministry, Deacon and eventually Associate Pastor. After many years he moved on to join Judah Praise Ministry.

He was preceded in the death by both parents and siblings Vera Searcy, James B. Smith Jr. and Helen Collins.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife Mary Smith, son Barron Keith Haywood, daughter Kimberly L. Scott (Tony) two granddaughters Kierra Dukes and Terren Haywood, one great-granddaughter Honesty Barr, sister Shirley Shaw of Austin, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A viewing will be held 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2019, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Walter's Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 1, 2019, Providence-Jones Family Chapel. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 3, 2019, Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX.
