Vernon Charles Penny

Born 12/10/1938 gained his wings on 3/3/21. He was born in Travis County to David D. and Lucille Penny. Vernon is preceded in death by both of parents, his longtime partner Linda Teague Cooper, sisters Dorthey Beckman, Lavern Merit, Lorene Pittman, Ruby Pinner, and brother David Edward Penny.

Vernon Penny is survived by sisters Emma Covey of Taylor TX and Geraldine Williams, (husband Gene) of Austin TX and Brother John T Penny (wife Sissy) of Rockdale TX. Children; Valerie Crum of Hutto TX, David C Penny (Wife Terry) of Thorndale TX, Joseph Penny (wife Laura) of Rockdale TX, Vernon Penny (wife Rene) of Pampa TX, and Kimberly Pruett (husband Steve Pruett) of Rockdale TX. Vernon enjoyed 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Vernon also had many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that he loved dearly. He had a way of making each one of them feel special and as if they were his favorites. If he were given the chance, he would brag on every one of them. Vernon was a loving man, but mess with his family and he would be hard to contain and did not mind telling others just what he thought about any given situation. If he loved you, he did so unconditionally, without thought and if you messed up, he told you about it, but he defended you till the end. The family was everything to Vernon.

He was a brick and rock mason since he was 17 years old and loved showing the work that he accomplished. He loved to talk about how he was able to teach many of his nephews how to do a job and do it right. He was always saying that if he was going to do the job, he was going to do it right the first time and believed everybody should be the same way.

Vernon was also a storyteller; He told many stories of his mom, dad, brother, and sisters and the life they lived.  He loved sitting on the front porch talking about the good ole days and the many adventures that his family had. He would talk for hours. He had a memory for everyone he loved and would tell them over and over. and looked forward to Sundays when he would visit his brother John & and Sissy. He would make his rounds because he knew his daughter would be cooking something. He also looked forward to his talks with his sisters Geraldine and Emma. He would say “well I haven’t heard from my sisters; guess I better give them a call”.  He also looked forward to the “pretty girls” coming to visit. There was not a kid or animal alive that did not love daddy. We all have our special memories of daddy and he would want us to hold those dear.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 8,2021 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
