Veola Brown, Terry, Palmer was born on December 18, 1929 to George and Chesta Brown. She grew up in Bastrop County and attended Elgin public schools. In 1941, she married Leroy Terry, Sr., and to this union five children were born, four boys and one girl. She later married Ralph L. Palmer and had one stepdaughter. Veola was a housewife and a private caregiver who had a passion for growing plants. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Bastrop County.
Veola Palmer passed away on October 6, 2021, at the age of 91, at her daughter’s home in Bastrop, Texas. Despite her age, battle with dementia, and other medical issues in recent years, Veola showed her courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile and stayed strong until the end. Even though God Almighty took her away from this world, her loving heart left a beacon of light for all who knew her. She was a very friendly person, but didn’t bite her tongue when saying what she thought. Her friends described her as “the funniest person I know.” She kept people rolling in laughter because she could find humor in almost any situation.
Veola was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her youngest son, Vernon Terry. She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Leroy Terry, Jr. (Kay), Donald Ray Terry, and Lonnie Lee Terry, daughter, Marjorie Meeks and stepdaughter, Pamela Scott (Henry), and one sister, Thelma Williams (Roy). In addition to her children, Veola is mourned by 11 loving grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
