Steven Lee Mills of Lexington Texas, husband, father, poppy, son, brother, and friend passed away at his home on the evening of Tuesday June 12, at the age of 51 surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Steve was born on June 23, 1966 in Giddings, Texas to Walter Mills and Iris McPhaul, 1984 graduate of Elgin High school, and baptized at the First Baptist Church of Elgin. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 32 years, Kathy and their precious children, Ashlee (Mitchell) Smith, Dustin Mills, Heather Mills (Justin Lundgren), and Jacob Mills, by his mother, Iris Hayes and husband Charles, and by his brothers and sister Kevin (Norma) Mills, Sandra (Steven) Walker, Eric (Kirsten) Hayes. Steve will also be fondly remembered by his two grandchildren Emma Grace and Kirby Jace Smith. He will be dearly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father Walter Mills and father in law Billy Norris.
Steve devoted his life’s work to Dairy milk sales for 31 years, 28 years with Borden Dairy, and he was most recently employed as the Austin Branch Manager with Hiland Dairy Foods. Steve served on the boards of numerous organizations including The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo as the Vice Chairman on the operations committee and a member of the board of directors, The Texas Food and Fuel Association as the Vice President, and the Capital Area Food and Fuel Committee and the TASN. He was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge#138.
Steve was a devoted father, always sacrificing his needs for the good of his family, an avid outdoorsman who could always be found hunting or fishing and was a man of ongoing projects who enjoyed using his creativity to design and build for his family. From birth to death he nourished people around him with a kind heart, love and faith.
A celebration of Steve’s life, officiated by Mark Nygard, will be held on Monday June 18
th
at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am. Providence Jones Funeral Home located at 604 Hwy 95 Elgin, Texas 78621. Pallbearers are Jacob Mills, Dustin Mills, Mitchell Smith, Justin Lundgren, Ben Chapa, Clifford Carey, Vernon Kunz, and Rodney Baker.
