Stella graced this earth for 98 years!  She was a devout Christian and life-long member of the Elgin Church of Christ in Elgin, Texas.  She TRULY loved the Lord and studied her bible for as long as she was able to read.  Stella was no stranger to hard work as she worked on a farm most of her young life. Later in life, she devoted much of her time caring for the elderly at the Manor Rest Home.  She worked for the Travis State School as a nurse’s aide and eventually obtained her LVN status.  She retired from the Austin State Hospital in 1981.

Stella was the one who was always there to help anyone at anytime with anything they needed!  She took on tasks that few would and never complained.  Stella loved the outdoors.  In fact, she continued to mow her own lawn until she moved to the SPJST Assisted Living Home in Taylor, Texas at the age of 95.  Stella was known around the Post Oaks, (in particular the Hibbs Lane area), as “The Golf Cart Lady”  She and her late dog “Sandy” would load up on the golf cart most evenings and take off for a trip down Hogeye Rd and Hibbs Lane…  The family is pretty sure she made hundreds of these trips…  and almost every time, a neighbor would call one of the family to express their concern for her safety. More than once, she was actually pulled over by an officer and advised that she needed to stay off the busy roads… but, evidently, she managed to talk her way out of ever being given a citation and kept up her evening jaunts until she herself decided it was time to cut it out!  The family KNOWS beyond a shadow of a doubt that Pawpaw, Mammaw and Sandy will be cruising the streets of gold on a golf cart together again in Heaven!
