Shirley Wilson Stagner passed away from this life on August 1, 2018. As a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, we rest in the knowledge that she is free from pain and her mind and body are once again whole. She is now resting in the arms of our Lord Jesus.
Shirley was born on October 28, 1940, in Chandler, Oklahoma, to Neal and Agnes Wilson. She was preceded in death by her mother Agnes Wilson Oliver, her step-father Keith B. Oliver and her father Neal Wilson, who gave his life for his country in World War II, and her in-laws Kentric and Jessie Lynn Stagner.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Terry Stagner whom she met at Abilene Christian University. They soon married on June 6, 1959, in Elgin, Texas and moved to Austin. She is survived by her brother, Jimmie Wilson, whom she talked to on a daily basis.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheri Stagner Mohle, and son-in-law-, Rusty Mohle and grandsons, Travis Mohle and Austin Mohle.
She is survived by her son, Scott Stagner and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stagner, her grandson, Sterling Stagner and granddaughters, Shelby Stagner and Kayla Valentine.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Tindel and her brother-in-law Jerry Tindel and their children and grandchildren.
Additionally, she leaves behind her neighbors, Janie and John Houston, Sue and Mark Piwonka and Ronnie and Mike Ericksen. She loved them as family, and they continually helped her and Terry when her health began to decline. We are forever grateful for their love and support.
Shirley had many friends in Austin and Houston who will miss her.
Shirley was a devoted Christian wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a stay at home mom who was always there for her children and grandchildren, celebrating their achievements although her health kept her from attending many of those milestone events. Her love of flowers led to her beautiful yards and flower arrangements to adorn their home. She was a member and officer of the Lakewood Forest Garden Club for many years.
Shirley wasn’t a native Austinite, but loved Austin with a passion. She never stopped thinking of it as her home and would have loved to moved back to see the rolling hills and be a part of the city she moved from 30 years ago.
A visitation will be held 10:00 AM Monday August 6, 2018, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Shirley's Life beginning at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in the McDade Cemetery.
