On May 1, 2017 Shelton Lee Kennedy age 93 from McDade, TX, originally from Spicewood, TX passed away peacefully in his home.
Shelton was born on July 21, 1923 at his family home in Spicewood growing up with 10 other siblings. After completing his military service in the Army during WWII he returned to Texas and married Verne Cochran and became a rancher at the Bar K. After his first son, Clayton Kennedy, was born he went to work for J.C. Evans Construction where he remained for over 30 years and retired. He lived long and worked hard. He was renowned for his cowboy skills and his detailed recollection of local history and family stories.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Verne Kennedy, who passed in 1994.
He is survived by his younger brother, Jesse Kennedy; his son, Clayton Kennedy and wife Karol, his son, Jerry Kennedy and wife Sue Anne. His grandchildren, Kimberly Kennedy, Krista Kennedy, Julianna Smith and her husband Michael. Also, by his great grandchildren Trisha Kennedy, Hayden Smith and Hannah Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by his sweetheart, Dorothy Maines.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 4, 2017 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.Graveside Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 5th, Haynie Flat Cemetery in Spicewood, TX.
