Roy Neidig

February 23, 1933 — August 30, 2021

Robert Roy Neidig was born on February 23, 1933 to Robert and Elsie Neidig in Elgin, Texas.   Along with his family, Roy loved farming, ranching, and participating in FFA where he raised the 1949 Grand Champion Sheep and 1950 Grand Champion Steer at the Travis County Livestock Show.  He graduated from Elgin High School in 1951 and later served in the Army where he was promoted to sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1953.

In 1959, after graduating from business college, Roy met Patsy Henning, and they were married on September 3, 1960.  Upon returning from their honeymoon, Roy became the manager of the Austin Municipal Federal Credit Union where he served for over 30 years.   During this time, he was appointed to state and national credit union committees and boards, and was elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Texas Credit Union League in 1978.

Throughout the years, Roy enjoyed dancing with Patsy, fishing, hunting, making venison sausage and peach preserves, and hosting events with family and friends.  His core values revolved around faith, family and farming, and he was the Godly patriarch of the family.

When Roy retired, he returned to his love of farming and ranching full time.  He and Patsy moved to his hometown of Elgin where they have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.  Roy also enjoyed his time with the Men’s Downtown Coffee Club.  He and Patsy became active in community activities and events, especially Cattlemen for Cancer Research.

Roy is survived by his wife Patsy of over 60 years, daughter Janet Maluschka and her husband Mike, son Alan Neidig and his wife Erica, grandchildren Amanda (Maluschka) Smith and her husband Jeff, Matthew Maluschka, Matt Neidig and his wife Grace, Jonathan Neidig and his wife Amy, Allison Neidig, Andrew Neidig, and Natalie Neidig, great-granddaughters Norah and Peyton Smith and Claire Neidig, brother Curtis Neidig, and sister Laura Vrana.

The family especially thanks Paul Mogonye, Debbie Neidig, and Serenity Hospice for their care and support.
