Honoring His Life
In Memory of our beloved “Troy”
Robert Troy Van Komen born June 29, 1969 to Robert Glen and Christie Lee Van Komen, left his earthly vessel and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 2, 2018. Troy’s struggles were many but far outweighed by his joys and contributions. His greatest joys in life were his three beautiful and amazingly talented children, Madison, Beau and Zach.
His brothers and sisters, Tony, Alissa, Justin, Emily, Erin, Cosme, Sarah, Travis, Corinne, Jason, D.J. and Sara along with his stepfather, Gordon Hensell; stepmother Val Van Komen, and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a huge extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends whom he loved deeply and spoke of often.
He loved spending time with his family, working, and making things beautiful. He took pride in his yard and in his home. He LOVED to decorate, especially for Halloween and Christmas. He loved his home, and was full of talent, even building his nephews a bunk bed. He enjoyed riding his Vespa, camping, fishing, the Denver Broncos, college football, country music, and Diet Pepsi.
He also loved God and always took every opportunity to share his love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his knowledge that through him…all things are possible. 1 John 4:16 was one of Troy’s many favorite scriptures: “God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.” He developed an understanding of the true meaning of love, compassion, and forgiveness for not only himself but for his fellow mankind. Troy walked with his Lord and Savior and did his best every day to improve himself in every way possible.
In 2012, Troy embarked on a new adventure to Texas. He married his best friend and soulmate, Carey Van Komen on December 12, 2012 and with her, gained six more children: Cody, Chelsea, Byran, Mitchell, Jeff, and Inez. He was also blessed to welcome three beautiful grandbabies into this world: Zoey, Aspen, and Jesse, who brought him so much happiness and enjoyment. He was an AMAZING “Papa”. No matter how tired he was from the work week, he always looked forward to seeing his grandkids on the weekend. His family circle grew even wider with the addition of Carey’s family who adored Troy and spent a lot of time swapping snapchats with him!
Troy graduated from the College of Healthcare Professionals in 2015 and entered the workforce as an LMRT/MA/Phlebotomist, and was able to obtain his license as an x-ray technician. He showed a great deal of empathy and compassion for his patients and loved his coworkers dearly. He also spent a lot of time teaching medical students how to draw blood, give injections, and perform EKGs. He loved helping them learn and become proficient in their skills. He never missed a graduation and his students loved him and called him Mr. Troy.
He loved life, and brought joy into the lives of all who were blessed to know him. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help. He showed an immense capacity to love, empathize with, understand and accept those he came into contact with on a daily basis regardless of their limitations or struggles.
Troy was sent to Earth to fulfill a mission and he has done that. He fulfilled it honorably and enthusiastically and although many will grieve his loss, we know he has far more important business in the arms of the Father. “For who the Son sets free is free indeed” John 8:36.
We grieve the loss of our son, brother, father, husband, uncle, cousin, grandfather, and friend.
We will miss your infectious smile, your laugh, your dimples, your sense of humor, and your huge heart. Troy you will be greatly missed and forever loved! “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” Ecc 3
