Ramona G. Ramirez

Ramona G. Ramirez was born January 6, 1922, in the Villa del Carmen community south of San Antonio in Bexar County, Ramona Gonzales Ramirez died in Elgin, Texas, on July 10, 2018, at age 96. The daughter of Rafael and Castula Sanchez Gonzalez, she was predeceased by her parents, as well as by her brother Wilfredo, Pablo, and Adrian Muniz. She is survived by her sister, Juanita Muniz Orozco of Houston; daughters Herminia Ramirez Price and husband Mark Price of Elgin, and Mary Jane Ramirez Saucedo and husband Matusalen Saucedo of Elgin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ramona grew up in the McQueeny/Seguin area, moved to Elgin, and later to Houston, where she married Guadalupe Lopez Ramirez in 1958. She worked pressing clothes in Houston’s famous Shamrock Hilton Hotel, where her customers included celebrities John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Patty Andrews, Maria Felix, and Liberace, who once asked her to work as his assistant, an offer she declined. In 1964 Ramona and her family moved back to Elgin. Following her husband’s death in 1970, she worked for the Elgin ISD for two years and for Meyer’s Sausage Co. for 17 years. She also cared for children for many years.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, July 13, 2018 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2018 Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the Elgin Latin Cemetery.
