Ralph D. Owen

Born November 7, 1946 in Bay City, Texas, to Donald S. Owen and Bessie Mae Baxter Owen and raised in Matagorda, Texas. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1965. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1971 with BS in Chemistry.

He went to work for Austin Police Dept. Crime Lab, as a Forensic Chemist for 29 years. He was a member of APD’s 1st Crime Scene Team, and was also on call for Clandestine Lab raids. He married his wife, Cynthia Stout, in Houston on June 28, 1975; and they have lived in Elgin since 1976. They had 2 children: Douglas and Elisabeth Rachel.

Ralph was a mostly quiet man. He worked hard and took good care of his family. He had a unique quirky sense of humor. And he passed it on to his children.  He liked to visit Matagorda frequently to visit with family and friends. He was a good poker player. After he retired, he liked his dog, his recliner, watching the stock market, and going to the gym. His 2 grandsons have been a great joy.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia; son Douglas and Olivia Owen; daughter Elisabeth and Brian Reymann; grandsons Macsen and Evander Owen; his brother Don and Elizabeth Owen of Sugar Land, nephew David and Sarah Michelle Owen, niece Sarah Mae Owen.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 6, 2018 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
