Pauline Diaz

The world lost a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend to many. Pauline Diaz passed away peacefully at home surrounded by many loved ones in Elgin, Texas. She was born on March 2, 1931 in Brownsville Texas to Felix and Francis Martinez. Her family eventually moved to Taylor Texas where she met and married Salvador Martinez Sr. From this union, they had eleven children. She would later remarry Joe Diaz, and from this love, had one child.

Pauline lived for not only her children, but for her siblings and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of her family and raised many family members, being a mother to more than just her children. She enjoyed playing bingo, cooking, listening to music, dancing, and crocheting. She LOVED taking pictures, and with the help of her children and grandchildren, discovered the fun of Snapchat and Instagram where many memories were shared.

One of the words that can be heard describing Pauline is STRONG. She was hands down the strongest member of the Martinez clan and that was exhibited throughout her entire life. QUEEN was another word that would best describe Pauline to anyone who knew her, especially her children and grandchildren. She was a woman to honor at every holiday or family gathering – even recently in a costume contest, winning 1 ^st place in her living community dressed as a queen. LEADER is another word often used to describe Pauline, as she led by example raising not only her children, but siblings and other family members, teaching them many life lessons and skills that you couldn’t learn in a classroom. One of those lessons, was how to put your best foot forward in all you do. A strong work ethic is something she instilled in everyone she raised and shared this with her many coworkers while working at Taylor Bedding in Taylor Texas, Brownwood Manufacturing in Brownwood Texas, Comet Cleaners in Pflugerville. She made friends anywhere she went and was a stranger to none. She loved dancing (even in her wheelchair) and listening to music until her last day of life, with one of her favorite songs being, La Puerta Negra by Los Tigres de Norte. She lived her 89 years of life to the fullest and will be missed by everyone she shared her life with.

Pauline is survived by her children, Hope Lopez, Arthur Martinez (Vera), Roger Martinez, Rudy Martinez (Emily), Ory Boney (Jeff), Sophie Hernandez (Henry), Marty Martinez (Marlena), Debbie Moya (Santiago) her siblings, Victoria Gutierrez, Susie Leverett, Helen Guzman (Solomon), Sylvia Perez, Gavino Martinez (Janie) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great, great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Felix and Francis Martinez, her husband, Joe Diaz, her children, Salvador Jr, Valany Martinez, Bobby Martinez and Rosie Martinez, one son-in-law, Joe Lopez, and grandchildren, John Gabriel Martinez and Areanna Cardiel and siblings, Felix Martinez, Roy Martinez, Samuel Martinez, Joe Martinez, Mary Fuentes and Nancy Ibarra.

Pallbearers honoring their grandmother will be David Gonzales Jr., Joe Anthony Lopez, Jeremiah Martinez, Marty Martinez Jr., Joshua Ochoa, Richard Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Henry Hernandez Jr., Jordan Diaz, with Jason Lopez , John Adrian Martinez, Devin Martinez, Estevan Cardiel, Eric Martinez, Jered Boney and Nehemiah Martinez serving as an honorary pallbearer.

She will be honored on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Providence Funeral Home in Elgin with a viewing from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm and rosary from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A private funeral service will be held for family on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elgin, Texas. A private burial for family will be held immediately following at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.
