Michael James Woehl – July 23, 1974 to October 18, 2019
Michael (Mike) James Woehl, age 45, of Manor, Texas was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Friday, October 18 th , 2019. He was born on July 23 rd , 1974 in Austin, Texas to Ted and Kathy Woehl. In 1988, Mike went to the National BB Gun Competition at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and won a gold medal in prone position. Michael graduated from Copperas Cove High School in June of 1992. After high school, he then went to Tarleton State University where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting on December 21, 1996. While working towards his degree, Mike was a member of the rodeo team, and spent his free time riding bulls.
He married the love of his life Alicia Sue Parker in Stephenville, Texas at Harvey Baptist Church on August 8 th , 1998. While married for 21 years, they had four beautiful children. Michael was employed with the State of Texas Comptroller’s Office in both Dallas and Austin. He worked for the State of Texas for 18 years until medically retiring in 2015.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, operating a ham radio (KG5SVL), and driving his 1956 Chevy 210, named Scarlett, to car shows. Mike loved his Dallas Cowboys! He was baptized on July 25, 2010 and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin. He previously served as Elgin President to the Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Youth Organization, an assistant Den Leader to Cub Scout Pack 471, an assistant Scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop 472, and an assistant coach to various sports in the Elgin Little League. He was a Master Mason, raised on April 22 nd , 2017 and currently serves as the Worshipful Master for Texana Lodge #123 A.F. & A.M. 2019-2020.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Rudolph and Bertha Woehl; his father Ted Woehl; and his nephew Garrett Parker.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Sue; his four children, Tyler James, Chance Ryan, Madison Mae, Marshall Jo; his mother, Kathy Woehl; his sister Sheri Welch, her husband Tracy and their children Kaylee, Caleb, and Matthew; his brother Chris Woehl, his wife Heather, and their children Carter and Avery; his father and mother-in-law Carl & Sue Parker; his sister-in-law Sherry Gast, her husband Paul, and their children Ben, Nate, Kate, and Lilly; and his brother-in-law Jason Parker, his wife Lisa and their son Luke.
Mike did not want to be remembered for how he died, but rather how he lived. After being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2015, he knew that God had a greater plan for him and used the time that he had left to share Gods’ love with others.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, October 24 th at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, TX. In lieu of flowers, Mike always wanted to give back to these two organizations that helped his family out while they celebrated life together.
