Mary Louise Thomas

December 24, 1932 — July 15, 2022

Mary Louise Thomas was born on December 24, 1932, in Cedar Creek, Bastrop County, Texas to the late Ella Mae Benford Smith and General Smith. The family moved to Elgin, Texas in 1943.

Mary attended Booker T. Washington School, married the love of her life, David Thomas, Sr., and moved to the big city of Fort Worth, Texas where she remained for 50 plus years. They were blessed to have two sons, David Thomas, Jr. and Grady Thomas. The couple enjoyed their journey together until David passed in 1995.

Mary accepted Christ at a young age and united with the Greater United Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth under the pastorship of the late Reverend Leonard Chilton when she moved. She shared her beautiful voice with others singing in the choir and continued to share her love for singing with staff and friends at Elgin Nursing and Rehab Center. Amazing Grace was one of her favorites. When her vision was good, her Bible was always close by. The LOVE she had for her family was truly amazing.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, David, sisters, Ruby Lee Brown and Lessie Lee Prescott, in-laws, S.B. and Maurice Thomas, Curley and Earlene Thomas, Walter Thomas, Chester Alexander, and Leon Brown, and great granddaughter, Madyson Darden.

Mary leaves in God’s hand to cherish her memories her sister, Margaret Alexander, sons, David, Jr., and Grady (Gay Bertha), grandchildren, Chaka Darden and Michael Wayne Darden (Doneisha), great grandchildren, Darius L. Smith, Jr., Yasmine N. Smith, Selah Chanae’ Smith, Michael Wayne Darden, Jr., and Calian Wayne Darden, and sister-in-law, Ruby Mae Thomas along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beautiful and caring roommate, Sylvia Ramirez, who always looked out for her.
