Our beloved mother, grandmother (Granny), and aunt (Aunt Margie), Marjorie Sandifer Harmon, passed away on August 21, 2018. She was 95 years old.
Marjorie was born October 14, 1922, near Manor to the late William “Bill” and Clara Hennig Sandifer. Marjorie graduated from Manor High School in 1940. After graduation, she attended Durham Business School in Austin gaining and polishing her secretarial skills. She met and married W.D. “Bill” Harmon on June 2, 1941 and welcomed their only child Nancy in 1946. After a few years, they settled in Marjorie’s home town, Manor, and there they resided together until Bill’s death and Marjorie resided there until 2015 when she moved to live with Nancy in Lee County. In February, 2018, Marjorie decided to move to a care facility in Taylor, S.P.J.S.T. Nursing, where she passed away.
Marjorie pursued and perfected her career as a secretary. After working in Austin, she found her true calling as Secretary to the Superintendent at Manor ISD. Marjorie held that position for over 40 years working under and beside six Superintendents and Boards. It was truly a labor of love for her; she loved the students and the many staff members she worked with and they loved her.
Marjorie was a life-long member of the Manor United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Ross and husband John of Lexington, her grandsons Stephen Ross and wife Donna of Lexington and Kevin Ross and wife Lynn of Lexington; four great granddaughters including Marley Ross of Hinton, Oklahoma, Karson Ross of Lexington, Mary Beth Ross of San Marcos, and Emily Ross of Lexington. She is also survived by her brother Harold Sandifer and wife Betty of Lexington and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother Morris.
A visitation will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, August 25, 2018, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home with a Celebration of Marjorie's Life beginning at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in the Manor City Cemetery.
