Margaret Ellen Terry

Margaret Ellen Miller Terry came into this world at home during a snowstorm on August 24, 1925, in East Lansing, Ingham, Michigan. She left this world on July 17, 2023. Margaret was the first of three children to be born to her mother, Dorothy Sanford, and father J Leslie Miller. Her sister, Doris Louise Miller was born August 12, 1927, followed by her brother, Keith Leslie Miller on November 28, 1933, also in East Lansing, Michigan. Doris left this world on Feb 1, 2017, and Keith left on April 7, 2019.

Her parents moved the family to Edinburg, Texas where they purchased some land and started an orchard. Margaret returned to Michigan to attend Nursing School at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She was a member of the Nurse Cadet Core but by the time she graduated from school the war was over. While she was still in school, she met George Mahlon Terry who had returned from overseas with the U.S Army. He told his parents that he met the Red Head he was going to marry. He was true to his word as he also moved to Edinburg, Texas where they married and had three children. Dorothy Lynn was the first born followed by Richard Leslie and George Michael. George passed away at the age of 11 due to Hydrocephalus. Richard left this world behind on Feb 13, 2015. Margaret did not waste her studies as she used her nursing skills at the Edinburg Hospital and later at a doctor’s office. When Michael was 6 years of age, he was transferred to the State School for Ill children in Austin, Texas and the family moved there to be near him. Margaret put her nursing skills to good use at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin for 22 years and held many positions there starting with teaching students at the LVN Nursing program held by Brackenridge Hospital. Later she worked many floors in the hospital before becoming Night Supervisor of the Hospital. Her daughter, Dorothy, graduated with top honors from the Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing.

Margaret’s husband George left this world to be with Jesus in 1999 due to cancer. Her sister and brother as well as other relatives have also departed this world for a better one. Margaret is survived by her daughter Dorothy Matheson with her husband, Charles; granddaughter Ellen E. Matheson who added her 3 children and 8 grandchildren to Margaret’s great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren count. Charles brought 7 children into Margaret’s family, one of whom Dorothy helped raise, Brian Alan Matheson and all their grand and great-grandchildren, which are many.
