Loretta Jean Johns

Loretta Jean Johns, 65, of McDade, passed away suddenly August 10, 2022. Loretta was born the youngest of three children to Edward “Eddie” Robert Mewis and Betty Jean Mewis, in Austin, Texas, on August 2, 1957.

On January 22, 1978, she met the love of her life, Richard “Rick” Eugene Johns, while playing in a pool tournament at an Austin bar. They moved in together a week later and married three months after on April 7, 1978. The couple welcomed their first child, Amanda, in 1985 and two years later their second child, Erick. Her favorite pastime was going to the casino in Louisiana and bingo around Austin. She fiercely loved her husband and children and adored her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, her sister, Brenda Cherisse Barnett and brother, Lee Edward Carpenter.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Rick; two children and their spouses, Amanda and husband, Joey Miller, Jr. of McDade, and Erick Johns and wife, Lisa of Elgin; her four grandchildren, Trinity Johns, Colby Miller, Orion Johns, and Coral Miller; lifelong friend, Evelyn and husband, Terry Robinson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2022, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
