Lorenzo Fowler Sr.

December 25, 1939 — August 4, 2023

Lorenzo Fowler Sr. was born on December 25, 1939, in Travis County, TX to the late Tommie and Viola Fowler. He departed this life on early Friday morning August 4, 2023. Lorenzo attended Elementary School in Littig, Texas, Junior High school in Kimbro, Texas and High School in Elgin, Texas graduating from Washington High School. Lorenzo was a standout athlete in basketball as well as track and field.

Lorenzo accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized early in his life at Shiloh Baptist Church in Littig, Texas. He was a faithful member of the church and very involved serving in many capacities that included: Sunday School Superintendent, Head of the Building Committee, the Shiloh BC Brotherhood, Head of the Finance Committee and rebuilding of the Shiloh BC, President of the Littig Cemetery Association, the overseer of clean up and upkeep of the church and a Deacon for more than 50 years. He served as Head Deacon until his health began to fail. Lorenzo was also a proud member of the Shiloh BC Male Chorus. His name is engraved on the cornerstone of the church as one of the original deacons dating back more than 50 years. He was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge F&AM #0207 and the Professional Truck Drivers Association.

Lorenzo began his truck driving career with Elgin Grain and Feed driving state to state for many years. He then moved to Central Freight Lines, Inc. in 1969 where he was recognized as a safe driver for more than 20 years before retiring. He also drove for Elgin Fertilizer for a brief time before going into permanent retirement.

Lorenzo is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Cathey Fowler, his eldest son, Lorenzo Fowler, Jr. his parents Tommie and Viola Fowler his brother Edward Fowler (Doris) and sisters Marie (Eddie) Virgie and Willie Mae (Chester).
Lorenzo leaves to cherish his memory, brother Tommie Fowler, Jr. (Hazel) of Houston, Texas, daughter Pamela Fowler Dickerson (Roderick) of Elgin, Texas, sons Darrell Fowler (Debbie) of Pflugerville, Texas and Mark Penson (Tasha) of Cedar Hill, Texas; granddaughter, Shouneille Moore (Mario) of Elgin, Texas; he helped raise twins Brion and Brianna Edmonds of Austin, Texas; great grandchildren, Johnique and Jaylah Thomas; his brothers and sisters-in-laws Emzie & Shirley Harrell, Horace & Tommie Nell Mitchell, Elmer & Catherine Cathey, Ronald & Carolyn Cathey, Robbie Hendricks and Bonnie Shepperd. He also leaves a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.
Longtime friends are Abron and Edith Mack, church member Ruby Williams; Roger and Suzanne Mogonye of Elgin Fertilizer and Dr. Charles Graham, Southwest Stallion Station and his longtime neighbor who was like a son to him, Jeff Baker.

A visitation for Lorenzo Fowler Sr. will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at Winn's Memorial Baptist Church in Elgin, Tx on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Internment will follow at Littig Cemetery.
