Leroy Brown

Leroy Brown, 88, of Austin, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 6, 2022. He went peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband to Minnie Jean Brown of 69 wonderful years, father to 3 children, Papaw to 6 grandkids and 4 great grandkids.

He was born on December 14, 1933, in Manor, Texas, to Lige Brown and Addie Lee Mercer Brown. He attended Manor and Austin High Schools. His first job was at Economy Furniture, then an Assistant Manager at Cash N Carry, Minimax, Rylander’s and Checker Front Grocery Stores, later he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Travis County Precinct 1.

Leroy’s favorite pastimes were fox hunting, playing ball, boxing, farming, gardening, working on lawn mowers and appliances, telling jokes, keeping his grandkids, and playing with his great grandkids. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

He served as the song leader and deacon at River Road Baptist Church for over 40 years. He was a strong man of faith and shared the Lord with everyone he met.

Leroy was preceded in death by mother, Addie Lee Mercer Brown, father, Lige Brown, siblings, Elwood Brown, Frances Davis, Betty Lou Duncan, Elroy Brown, Bobbie Jean Dailey, Leonard Brown, John “Sugie” Brown, and grandchildren, R.J. Brown Anglin and Rebecca Shumaker.

Leroy is survived by his loving wife, Minnie Jean Brown, brother, Norman & Carolyn Brown, children, Randal Brown, LR & Nikki Brown, Carolyn & Wade Shumaker, grandchildren, Ashley & Greg Smith, Josh & Jen Brown, Caitlyn & Steven Voelker, Kelsey & Cole Bolton, and great grandchildren, Mark Smith, Harper Smith, Nora Voelker and Beckett Voelker.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13 ^th from 3-5pm, with an opportunity to share stories at 4pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 14 ^th from 1-3pm. These services will be held at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin. Burial will follow at JJ Manor Cemetery, 20800 Sandy Brown Lane, Webberville, Texas, 78621.
