Larry S Olson

Larry S. Olson, age 78, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

Larry was born in Elgin, Texas on July 30, 1940.  He graduated from Elgin High School in 1958 and then Texas Lutheran College in 1964 with a degree in Physical Education (he liked to say that he squeezed four years into six while attending TLC).  He then coached at Del Valle High School and Beaumont French High School for 10 years where he was a very successful and highly respected baseball coach. In 1974 he retired from coaching and went back to Elgin to take over the family farm when his father retired.  Larry loved farming and worked on the farm until June of this year when he was unable to continue.  He also very much loved hunting with his lifelong friend David Hilsberg.

Larry was preceded in death by his Mother Beatrice Olson, his Father Lawrence Olson and his friend of 25 years Alice Neidig.  He is survived by family whom he loved very much, sister Leah Rae Olson Wilder and sons Olin (Deanna) Olson, Kevin (Cindy) Olson and Mike (Terry) Olson, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew and many wonderful friends in the Elgin community and elsewhere.

There will be a viewing from 12:00 -8:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2018, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Larry’s life held at New Sweden Lutheran Church at 3:30 P.M Saturday, December 8, 2018, followed by burial at New Sweden Cemetery and a fellowship gathering back at the church. Larry’s dear friend Reverend Hans Lillejord will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers Larry has requested that donations be made to New Sweden Lutheran Church
