He returned to Elgin to retire in 2010 where he lived and cared for his wife. John was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, served in his community, walked with confidence and honor, and was loved by so many.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, daughters, Roni Perez, Cindy Lawler and husband, Walter, and Julie Adams and husband, Jeff, grandchildren, Veronica Navejas and partner, Kyle Collins, Monica Navejas and wife, Shirley, John Navejas, III, Jamie Adams, Jordan Adams, and Shawn Lawler, great grandchildren, Santos Navejas, Isabel Navejas-Nalley, and Maggie Collins, sisters, Alice Trevino and Angie Perez, and brothers, Edward Perez and Joe David Perez.
2 Corinthians 4: 16-18
16
An Eternal Dwelling in Heaven.
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outer self is continuing to decay, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
17
Our temporary light afflictions are preparing for us an incomparable weight of eternal glory,
18
for our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal.
