Joaquin Hernandez

Joaquin Hernandez of Elgin, Texas passed away peacefully on October 13, 2020.

He was born in Elgin, Texas to Margaret and Joaquin Hernandez Jr. on June 22, 1939.  Joaquin retired from IBM and loved to talk about his memories of working there. After retirement, he enjoyed working for Elgin Medicine Chest as a delivery driver. He loved his sweets, you could always catch him watching tennis on TV, and he loved a good road trip to Louisiana to go gambling.

He was the loving father to Gina Fuentes of Manor, TX, Joaquin Hernandez IV of Elgin, TX, Bobbie and Chris Wissen of Elgin, TX and Margaret (Cookie) Hernandez and Mark Eddleton of Austin, TX.

He was the caring grandfather of Ashley Grier and husband Trevor, Katie Tipps, and husband Jason, Eric Tello and wife Cassandra, Robert Wissen, and Zachary Ott-Hernandez; and great-grandchildren Avery and Hunter Grier, Maddox Tipps, and Jacob and Haleigh Tello.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, his wife of 44 years, Dorothy Hernandez, his infant daughter, Melissa Ann Hernandez, and great grandson, Wyatt Grier.

Joaquin is also survived by his siblings Richard Gonzalez from Round Rock, TX, Gloria Torres of Pflugerville, TX who cared for him the past several years, Carolyn Perez and husband John, and Arnold Gonzalez and wife Sandy of Buda, TX.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Elgin Latin Cemetery.
