J.B. Miller

March 17, 1936 — November 4, 2017

J.B. Miller, long time resident of Bastrop County ,passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the age of 81.

He was born March 17, 1936 to Jeppie and Emma Spinks Eubanks Miller in rural Bastrop County. He graduated from Elgin High School in June 1955, two years later he married the love of his life Bobbie Joe Logan on June 7, 1957. They built a home and raised three children on their little farm a couple miles south of Elgin on Farm Road 1704.

J.B. began his career with Elgin Butler Brick at the Elgin Plant in 1955 in the plant office as a bookkeeper. He soon transferred to the main office in Austin where he retired as the head bookkeeper in 1972. After his retirement he was able to work at a career he truly loved and was gifted at, a Carpenter. J.B. joined the Carpenters Local 1266, for many years he served as vice president of the Local. After an extremely serious car accident in early 1981 he went back to work as a carpenter with the local, a few years later he went to work for Motorola at the Austin Plant as a Safety Coordinator, he retired from there in 1998. J.B. was then able to return to his love of farming full time. A few years after his retirement he became involved with the Oak Hill Cemetery Association where he held the position of vice president until the day he died. J.B. was also a member of the Sayersville Historical Association.

J.B. is preceded in death by his both his parents, Sister Sylvester Raschke, and his brother Gordon.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bobbie, his children Brenda and husband Steven Slough of Elgin, Jeff Jr., and wife Sharon Miller of Bastrop, and Teresa and husband Tom Gray of Elgin,his grandchildren; Ginger and Jim Hull of Blanco, James Aaron Slough and Tabitha Wheeler-McGwier of Elgin, William Slough and Nicole Smith of McDade, Jason and Yevette Miller of Bastrop, Sarah Miller and Andrea Prather of Bastrop, Jonathan Miller and Kristen Embler of San Marcos, Michael Miller of Bastrop, and Logan Gray of Elgin. As well as his great-grandchildren; Kathryn, Brayden Addison and Jackosn Hull of Blanco, Lilly and Kaylie Slough of Thrall, Adian and Tristan Smith of McDade, Gavin, Jeremy, Andres and Isabella Miller of Bastrop. His Nephews Harvey Raschke, Jr, John and Lina Raschke and Christopher Miller. He is also survived by many cousins.

A Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2017 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Homes. A Celebration of J.B.’s Life will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 11, 2017 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in McDade.
