James Moravits

January 18, 1956 — September 25, 2024

Our beloved James died at home on September 25, 2024, after a three-year battle with Lewy body Dementia. We are heartbroken.

He was born on January 18, 1956, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Pauline and Richard Moravits. He grew up in Corpus with his brothers Patrick, Allan, Gary and Bryan, and their large Polish-American family making their famous venison sausage. James cherished his Polish heritage and spending time "up the country" with his extended family on his grandparents' farms. If you knew James, you've surely heard countless stories of his childhood: hunting, fishing, being in trouble with the nuns for talking too much, and the list goes on.

In 1981, James and Lisa got married in Austin, Texas and the family grew to include Lisa's village of siblings, cousins, and friends. Soon after, Mark, Kirk and Laura came along, and their family of five built their lives in Round Rock, Texas. Fast forward to 2013, Kirk married Arianna and soon after, James received the ultimate gift: his grandbabies, Evan and Elina. They adored their Papa James and spent countless weeks with him in Round Rock and San Antonio digging in the back yard, going to the park ("push me higher Papa!"), and playing in the back of his truck. They were his happy place and his pride and joy.

James never met a stranger. His smile was infectious and everyone who ever met James loved him from day one. He was good with his hands and was famous for his menudo, even though Lisa made him cook it outside.

James worked for UPS for 37 years. He supported and mentored countless employees. His fellow "UPS guys" were a part of his family. They worked their butts off and always had each other’s backs. James was dedicated and proud to represent UPS. He loved his customers, and they loved him. They all trusted him to take care of them and their deliveries and considered him a valuable friend.

The gratitude we have for the village that surrounded James and our family with love--particularly those who supported us in James's final days--is immense and difficult to capture in words. Hospice of Austin, and specifically James's nurse Naomi, provided us with best-in-class care. Lorrie and Dan, our neighbors of 24 years, dropped everything to support our needs. Friends and family came from near and far with food, flowers, and most importantly love. We are forever grateful.

Our family will aspire to be as James was every day: kind to all, always smiling, endlessly hopeful, and a complete goofball. James was our North Star, shining brightly and helping to always lead the way.

Per James's wishes, there will not be a traditional funeral. We invite family and friends to reach out to one another, share a beer (he would order a Shiner on draft in a frosted mug), a meal, and continue to keep his memory alive.

To our dear sweet husband, brother, dad, Papa, friend, and neighbor--we will always love you and will work tirelessly to honor your memory.
