Our beloved James Carroll Holmstrom passed away on January 26, 2022. He was born on October 10, 1930, to Alyce Marie Johnson and Carl Lambert Holmstrom in Taylor, Texas.
Carroll, as he was most often known as, was baptized on December 2, 1930, at Hutto Lutheran Church and was confirmed there as well on April 14, 1946. He was a very proud graduate of Hutto High School. After high school, he married Betty Sue Blackman wherein four children were born.
He was always very hardworking doing all kinds of side jobs to provide for his family. He worked at Coca Cola and Southern Union Gas prior to moving back to Hutto to help his father on the farm. In 1967, Carroll began working for DPS and retired from there after 26 years. In 1982, he married Karen Lea Childers.
Carroll enjoyed puzzles, golf, watching any sport on TV, and traveling in his RV in which he was the navigator extraordinaire. His true passion was baseball. He played in the Minor Leagues and there is a baseball field in Hutto named after the Holmstrom brothers. Carroll also enjoyed the fellowship and friendship from the Wednesday daytime church group at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin.
He was known as a quiet man and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He dearly loved his wife, four children, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
Carroll is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Elgene and David, his beloved daughter, Liane, his granddaughter, Summer, and his pets, Sofie, Greta, and Sassy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Karen, his children, Jan Carole Kruse and partner, Fred, Russell Jay Holmstrom and wife, Marylin, and Terry Myall Holmstrom and wife, Tammy, his eight grandchildren, his fourteen great grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Valerie Volk, his brother-in-law, Max Childers, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his guardian angels, Brian and Diana and their beautiful angels, Addison and Matthew.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin. Interment will follow at Hutto Lutheran Cemetery.
