Ignacio V. Perez

Ignacio was born on July 30, 1931. On Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the age of 92, he left this earth to be with our Lord Jesus Christ and joined his beloved wife, Paula. Ignacio served this great country with the Navy for 4 years and with the Army for 12 years. He continued his service in the National Guard in Taylor, Texas. Ignacio was also a member of the American Legion Post 0295 in Elgin, Texas. He was also one of the selected veterans to take part of Honor Flight Austin in 2017 and got to take a trip to Washington D.C. to visit all the veteran memorials. It was a trip of a lifetime for him! He was a devoted Catholic and member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He and Paula were the first to be married in the new church on September 22, 1957. Ignacio was known to many as the Painter of Elgin. He started his career with Monroe Stabeno and continued on his own as well as working for the University of Texas Balcones Research Center and Camp Mabry. Ignacio was a sports fan! Football, baseball, softball, he loved it all! He was devoted to the Elgin Wildcats. You could always find him in the stands supporting the Wildcats! He always was there to support his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their sporting endeavors, even coaching a few. We cannot forget to mention how he loved his Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys! Ignacio was a kind man and never knew a stranger. When running errands, he enjoyed visiting with friends old and new and striking up a conversations on just about anything! He also loved to dance! If his bride got tired, his daughter was always ready to jump in as well as many others! He was always ready to help anyone out. If there was a job to do, he would volunteer to do it! He enjoyed working with his sons building cabinets, painting, clearing brush or just having a little BBQ and beer. He was always keeping busy! To the end, he was always on the hunt looking for something that needed a little paint touch up! He is preceded in death by his parents, Macedonio and Jesusa Perez, brother, Ralph, and sister, Carmen. He is survived by his sister, Jesse, his sons, Richardo (Janice) and Gerardo (Priscilla) and daughter, Dianne, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and many great friends. The family would like to thank Ascension Seton Smithville’s doctors and nursing staff who cared for my father in his final days. We would also like to thank Lutra Home Health Care and especially AJ for the many years of service and care. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Mass Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
