Glen Gus Newstrom, 87, of Elgin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024. He was born on March 3, 1937, in Austin, the only child to Gust Carl & Louise Anna (Branberg) Newstrom.
Glen was raised in the farming community around Elgin. He graduated from Elgin High School. After high school, he served in the National Guard for a few years. Upon returning from the National Guard, Glen went back to Elgin to farm on family land and eventually opened and operated his auto mechanic shop which remained opened for numerous years.
Glen lived a life filled with love, dedication, and cherished connections. He was united in marriage with his loving wife, Mickie Dell Dunbar together they raised their two children in Elgin.
You could find Glen enjoying a cold beer while visiting with loved ones, playing dominoes and making cherished memories with his family and friends. Above all else, his heart swelled with love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable happiness into his life.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mickie and son, Carl Glen. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories through his surviving family members, including son, Bradley (Tina); daughter-in-law, Eileen; granddaughters, Amanda (Rick) Sanchez and Ashley Dewitt; and his great-grandsons, Kyle Horelica and Oakley Dewitt as well as many adoring friends.

The Family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to the Austin Hospice Team and the Austin Christopher House for the care and dignity they showed Glen.
Serving as pallbearer’s will be Aaron Anderson, Gary Manning, Mitchell Schroeder, Gene Muery, Tom Ritter, and Joe Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Roepke, Myron Fisher, and Kelly Wayne.
A Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Glen’s Life beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
