Glen Blisard

July 8, 1927 — November 24, 2018

Glen L. Blisard, long-time resident of Elgin, Texas, went to be with his heavenly father on November 24, 2018.  He died peacefully at home with his family only three weeks after learning he had pancreatic cancer.  Glen was born on July 8, 1927, in Douglas County, Missouri, to William and Carrie Blisard.

Glen began work as a fishing guide when he was a young boy.  In his early years, he also worked hauling logs, then at a box factory, and at a peppermint mill.  Glen then worked at a large dairy in Oregon before moving to Texas to start his own dairy.  Initially, Glen had a small dairy and hand delivered bottled milk to various customers in the Elgin area.  He later increased his herd and enlarged his operation and became a supplier for Superior Dairies.  After retiring from the dairy business, Glen worked as a night watchman at the Southwest Stallion Station, and among other things was responsible for checking pregnant mares to ensure there were no problems before, during, and after foaling.  Glen later worked at Travis County Grain testing and coordinating transfer of grain brought in by local farmers.

Glen was a devout Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin.  He was always eager to lend a hand for any repairs or other issues at the church, and he also spent time visiting the homebound.  Glen was ordained as a deacon and later, when his health was failing, was bestowed with the honor of Deacon Emeritus.

Glen is survived by daughter Pattie Russell, daughter Joyce Lane and husband James, daughter Sharon Gwinn and husband Jimmy, son Danny Blisard and wife Janice, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Irene Blisard, his parents, five siblings, including a twin sister, and one son-in-law.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel in Elgin, Texas.  A visitation time will be held at the Providence-Jones Chapel Tuesday, November 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Elgin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, Elgin.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nathan Cohen and his staff at Baylor Scott & White, Taylor for the many years of care and concern provided to Glen as well as the rest of the family.  Extreme gratitude is also extended to Encompass Home Health and Hospice staff for providing care and for guiding and supporting our family during our time of need.
