Gary Lynn “Bubba” Snowden, Sr. left on Thursday, January 3, 2019. The sun came up on Friday morning without our Bubba here to see it.
Bubba was born to Gladys and Oscar Snowden on June 11, 1945 at Elgin Fleming Hospital. He was the second son of four brothers. He attended Elgin schools along with SHSU and Texas State.
Work, diligence, discipline, overcoming obstacles, taking care of his family and friends were a few of the traits that everyone respected and loved about him. His ability to relate and connect with people enabled him to have many friends.
After over forty years of owning and operating the family business, Oscar Snowden, Inc., the brothers decided it was time for a new direction in their lives. From 2001 -2012, Bubba spent time at his ranch in Elgin taking care of his beloved cattle, taking care of rental property and being with family and friends.
In 2012 he ran for the office of Bastrop County Commissioner, Precinct 4 and won. He took up the reins of his dear friend, Commissioner Lee Dildy. Bubba was reelected in 2014 and 2018. Every day for him was joy as traveled to the county barn, the Bastrop County Courthouse and the Bastrop County Animal Shelter. He had found purpose in his life.
He and his wife, Donna, shared many years together. They were a team who had the same goals and values- family, home, friends and community. His children, Tracy and Gary, were his pride and joy. His son-in-law , Pascual, was the father and husband that Bubba was grateful for. His granddaughters were the light in his life and gave him more pleasure than they will ever comprehend. His wife, Donna, was at his side always. She is grateful that he graced her life.
Bubba was proceeded in death by his parents, Gladys and Oscar Snowden, brother, Donald Snowden, mother-in-law, Elwanda Ludgren, brother-in-law, Charles Neil Lundgren Jr., and his irreplaceable son, Gary Lynn Snowden, Jr.
He is survived by, his wife, Donna, daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Pascual Ortiz, granddaughter, Charlie and Paloma, brothers, Sherman (Sherry, Randy, and sister-in-law, Beverly. He is also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Ronnie Moore. Father-in-law, Charles N. Lundgren, Sr. and many nieces and nephews. He loved all of them including his extended family.
