Francisco “Pancho” Vizcarra Sr., 88, of Elgin, Texas, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
Francisco was born in Escalon, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 28, 1930, the son of the late Leonardo and Eutimia Vizcarra. He married the love of his life, Amelia Vizcarra, on December 25, 1955. They were married for 63 years and spent their lives providing a loving home for their family of 7 children, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
His grandson, Christopher Vizcarra, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Vizcarra, two daughters, Leticia Vizcarra, Maria Villarreal (husband Francisco), and five sons, Leonard Vizcarra Sr., Luis Vizcarra, Frank Vizcarra (wife Lorraine), George Vizcarra (wife Nellie), Charlie Vizcarra (wife Lisa), 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pancho worked for the late Howard W. Rivers for 10 years with an avid passion for ranching that continued throughout his life. He served as a security guard for the University of Texas Applied Research Laboratories and retired after 21 years. He was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Socios Society. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and his twice-yearly pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle.
Funeral arrangements provided by Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Highway 95 North, Elgin, Texas. A visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 W. 11th St., Elgin, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 25, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment to follow immediately at the Elgin Latin Cemetery. The family invites everyone to join them for a celebration of Pancho’s life at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church hall immediately following the burial.
Pancho’s grandchildren will serve as his pallbearers: Leonard Vizcarra Jr., Jason Vizcarra, Celina Sanchez, Joshua Vizcarra, Nic Vizcarra, Jaime Villarreal, Cody Vizcarra, Arturo Villarreal,, Jalen Vizcarra, Brandon Vizcarra, Dustin Vizcarra and Luke Vizcarra.
“Popo Pancho” and his wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed.
