Floyd "Jim" Wilnie Shackelford

December 4, 1942 — July 29, 2019

Floyd “Jim” Shackelford, 76, of Dime Box passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 surrounded by family.

Jim was born on December 4, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa to Floyd and Elsie (Jones) Shackelford. He joined the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. Jim met the love of his life, Rebecca Potter, and they were married on April 5, 1986. Jim was incredibly diverse – he had an Associate’s degree in massage therapy, held a position as an LAPD cop at one time, as well as played Santa anytime of the year for his grandchildren. However, his love for printing became one he stuck with for over 20 years. Jim worked for Texas Printing, Minco Technology Labs, and Xerox. His hobbies included riding motorcycles and tending to his horses. All the while, he loved his Lord and Savior. He and Rebecca attended Elgin New Life Baptist Fellowship and faithfully served wherever they could. Jim never enjoyed being the center of attention, but when he was, you never knew what his response to you would be. He was a man that many loved and will miss dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Nielsen.

Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rebecca; three daughters, Michelle Wilford, Tamara Murray, and Trina Shackelford; three grandchildren, Seinna Samples, Reily Samples, and Michael Winnie; two great grandchildren, Peyton Winnie and Halyee Winnie; and two sisters, Louann Peterson and Ann Williams, and God child Katie Schlicke Salinas.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Elgin New Life Baptist Fellowship at 10:00am, with Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00pm at Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery in Killeen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elgin New Life Baptist Fellowship.
