Etta Mae Smith Henigan, was the second child born to the late Antone and Belah Hollins Smith in Giddings, Texas.
Etta attended school in Giddings. After the passing of her beloved mother, her father moved to Elgin. She attended Booker T. Washington High School, where she received her diploma. Etta also received certificates in Nursing and word processing. Etta was a very strong supporter of education which inspired the establishment of the Ollie and Etta Henigan Scholarship at Texas A&M University in 2015 to help minority students. Etta was a supporter of the NAACP as well. Her children were attended school at Booker T. Washington when she became the PTA President and served for three years.
At the age of 20, Etta was baptized into Christ at the Church of Christ in Vernon, Texas. While working in Austin, she attended the East Side Church of Christ, under leadership of late brother Charlie Thomas, Minister.
After she and her husband Ollie Returned to Elgin, she placed her membership at the Elgin Church of Christ, where she remained until her illness.
Etta Retired from DPS after over 10 years.
Etta is preceded in her death by her parents, beloved husband Ollie Henigan Jr., daughter Alinda D. Henigan Keley, six brothers: Edward, Willie, Melford, Cecil, Curtis, and Melvin.
A Celebration of Etta's Life will be held 11:00 Tuesday, November 24, 2020, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
Cherising her memories: Daughters, Maxine Jackson, Felecia Sephus (Robert), Son, Kenneth L. Henigan (Brenda), two sisters, Margie Green, Nell Green (Louis), Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great Great-Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
