Emily C. Gonzales

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Emily Gonzales, who left us peacefully on March 4, 2025. Emily was born on February 15, 1951, and lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Charlie Gonzales, and their children, Michael (Sonia), Charles (Olivia), and Jaimie (Sarah). Emily also leaves behind her cherished siblings, Manuel Cortez, Estefania Miller, Leonor Ramos, Emelda Luna, and Juanita Luna. Her legacy continues through her loving grandchildren: Mikie, Matthew, Mariah, Andrea, Victoria, Theresa, Marcus, Jonathan, Andruw, Aubrey, and Avery, as well as her seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Federico Guzman Cortez Sr. and Leanor Gonzales Cortez, and her siblings, Federico Cortez Jr., Maria Ofelia Perez, Juan Cortez Sr., Fernando Cortez Sr., Ramiro Cortez, Maria Anita Ortiz, and Roberto Cortez Sr. She was a guiding light for all who knew her and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

The kitchen was the center of her home where she spent countless hours preparing meals, including her famous enchiladas, carne guisada, and homemade tortillas. When she wasn’t hosting, you could find her in the stands supporting her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, spending time playing a game of cards or with her favorite bingo dabber in hand. Emily’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, whose lives she enriched with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love.

A celebration of her life will be held at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, TX (604 Hwy 95 N Elgin, TX 78621) on Tuesday, March 11th with visitation from 6pm to 8pm and recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7pm. Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (302 W 11th St, Elgin, TX 78621) on Wednesday, March 12th at 10 am. Pallbearers will be Mikie Juarez, Matthew Gonzales, Marcus Gonzales, Jonathan Gonzales, Andruw Gonzales and David Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearers Izaac Williams, John Michael Juarez III, Imir Williams Xavier Ramirez, Nathan Evans, Nicholas Evans.
