Ellen Ohrstrom

Ellen Aken Ohrstrom, age 72, of Austin, Texas, passed away on March 25, 2025 in her sleep. Ellen will be deeply missed by her children Jan Ohrstrom of Waco, Texas, Jenny Ohrstrom (husband, Bobby) of Manor, Texas, Lea Ohrstrom (husband, Cutter) of Round Rock, Texas, Anna (Ohrstrom) Miller (husband, Bryan) of Austin, Texas, and Per Ohrstrom (wife, Rachel) of Richmond, Virginia; her grandchildren Aislinn Makenzie, Jayden Kristian, Hunter Stein, Lyra Rose, Liv Elara, Violet Amara, Iris Mae, and Draiden Ansgar; her sister Jane (Aken) Merdes (husband, Robert), and brother John Aken (wife, Kate); and her nieces and nephews, Amalia (Eggleston) Hanley, Daniel Eggleston, William Eggleston, Emily (Aken) Bidwell, K.C. Aken, Robert Merdes, Brian Merdes, and Kent Merdes; and numerous cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Stein Ohrstrom, whom she married September 29, 1979, in Sacred Heart Church. She was also preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Deborah Ann (Aken) Eggleston (husband, Daniel), Mary Leatha Aken, and Kenneth Aken (wife, Mary Ann), her nieces Stasie Jane (Eggleston) Ostow and Ellen Marie Aken, and her granddaughters Naomi Elsa Ohrstrom and Cora Jane Ohrstrom.

Ellen was born on November 24, 1952 in New Philadelphia, Ohio; she was the last of six children born to Anastasia (Cox) and Kenneth Aken. Ellen was a loving mother and wife, adventurous spirit, an avid dog lover and QVC enthusiast. When Ellen wasn’t traveling or raiding the local crafts stores, she was creating wonderful memories with her children and grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church located at 10205 N FM 620, Austin, TX 78726.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church located at 139 3rd St NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Burial, alongside her husband Stein, will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
