Earline Burns, formerly of Lexington, Texas, passed away on August 4th, 2022, in Hearne, Texas at the age of 92.
Earline was born on January 14, 1930, in Del Rio, Texas, to Martha Annie (Dieson) Bricker and James Vernon Bricker. She married Louis Porter Burns, in Buda, Texas on November 2, 1947. They had two children, Cherilyn Kay Wilson and Randall Louis Burns. They were married for 12
years before they divorced.
Earline attended Nixon Clay Business College in 1948 and was extremely proficient at both shorthand and dictation. In the early 1950s, she was the 3rd woman to be hired by the Austin Police Department. Although she worked for several businesses throughout her career, Earline spent most of her years as an employee for the great state of Texas. She began working for the State Comptroller’s Office in the mid 1970s and remained there until her retirement at the age of 79.
When her son was in 2nd grade, she began working two jobs which she continued until her daughter graduated from high school. This afforded many fun experiences and adventures, not only for her two children, but also for her three younger siblings, Joe, Margaret, and Lois Ann.
In 1976, Earline moved to McDade, Texas, to help her parents. Shortly afterwards, Lloyd Turner, came to help with their farm also. They were together for 23 years until his death, during which time he became a part of our family. Earline and Lloyd were both members of the Blue Volunteer Fire Department and became an integral part of the community. When her father passed away, they moved back to Austin, Texas. After her mother became ill with cancer, she spent her final days with Earline and family in Lexington.
In June 2021, Joe, Cherilyn and Earline moved to Hearne, Texas. Nana was blessed with a very special caregiver, Shanida Ra-chael Young. Obviously God had it arranged beforehand because she lived just down the street. She loved and cared for Nana like she was family. Now,
Ra-chael is family.
Earline had a long life and was blessed with many lifelong friends. She was a woman of faith who loved her church and was esteemed by friends, neighbors and colleagues. Her legacy is one of love, friendship and sacrifice.
