David Neal Sherrill

January 8, 1959 — September 29, 2023

David Neal Sherrill was born January 8, 1959, in Giddings, TX to Johnnie Mae (Lay) and Avery Ray Sherrill. He attended school in Lexington and went on to work for Texas Utilities. In 1987 he was diagnosed with kidney failure and began dialysis which he continued for the next 36 years of his life.

On August 16, 1980, David married the love of his life Bonnie Tydlacka in Dime Box, TX. They would spend the next 43 years by each other’s side.

David was a lifelong resident of Blue, where he was affectionally known by many as the “mayor.” His outgoing personality was unmatched, he truly never met a stranger. He had a passion for helping people and was a confidant and trusted advisor to so many. One of his fondest accomplishments was helping to pass the Telemedicine bill in 1997 which was signed by TX Governor George W Bush.

David was an avid farmer and rancher and known for his sweet, delicious watermelons. You could find him most Saturdays at the auction barn where he enjoyed visiting with friends just as much as watching the cattle come through the ring. Early mornings or late evenings David could be found in the countryside riding his beloved gator, yet his greatest pleasure in life came from spending time with his family.

On Friday, September 29, 2023, David passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Heart Hospital in Austin at the age of 64.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray & Johnnie Mae Sherrill, brother Dalton Sherrill, and brother-in-law Mike Hannigan. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sherrill; son Matthew (Morgan) Sherrill of Blue; daughter Stephanie (Ryan) Moss of Friendswood. Grandchildren, Tyler, Kannon, & Koby Moss, Mackenzie Eldridge, & Mason Sherrill. Brothers, Robert (Brenda) Sherrill of Jewett, Billy (Kathie) Sherrill of Beaukiss, Randy Sherrill of Lexington. Sisters, Doris (Buford) Phillips of San Antonio, Jo Nell Sparrow (Gary Conner) of Buda, Marilyn Hannigan of Lexington, Judy Blue (Jonesy Jones) of Blue. Sister-in-laws, Debbie Sherrill of Bellville, Patti (Bobby) Adcock of Dime Box, Brother-in-law, Patrick Tydlacka of Elgin. Mother & Father-in-law Arnold & Florice Tydlacka.
