David Santos, age 90, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
David was born on August 24, 1934, to Uvaldino and Irene Santos. He was the youngest of five siblings: Isidro Santos, Pauline Santos Galindo, Uvaldino Santos Jr., and Robert Santos, all of whom preceded him in death. David was also reunited in heaven with his two cherished grandsons, Christopher, and Cody Vizcarra, to whom he devoted much of his time after retirement.
A proud member of the Elgin High School Class of 1953, David and his brothers were standout players on the Wildcat Baseball Team, leaving a legacy of teamwork and sportsmanship. After high school, David served honorably in the United States Air Force, answering the call of duty with pride. Following his military service, he built a career in the warehouse industry, eventually retiring from Sysco Food Service after many years of hard work and dedication.
David’s favorite things included reading the Austin American Statesman and completing the crossword puzzles, shooting pool, cheering on his favorite teams, and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, Texas Longhorns, and the Huston-Tillotson Rams (especially Ram #33), fan. David’s enthusiasm for sports was contagious and opinionated.
Simple pleasures that brought a smile to David’s face: a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream, a cold Lone Star beer, and the joy of seeing his family happy. He was the mastermind of the perfect hot sauce, best pancakes, and the treasured trips to the donut shop before school or pit stops at the snow cone stand after school —small yet meaningful gestures that leave a lasting impression on those he loved.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving devoted wife of 58 years, Lupe Gonzales Santos, his daughters, Lisa Vizcarra (Charlie) and Joann Clements (Mike); his grandchildren, Taylor Clements (Kayli), Ashley Clements, and Luke David Vizcarra; and his adored great-granddaughters, Blair and Parker Clements. Uncle Dave is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, along with a host of friends who will forever cherish his memory.
