David Reyes Chavez “Squeaky”, aged 70, from Taylor, Texas, passed away February 13, 2025, in Austin, TX after a brief illness.
David was born March 1, 1954, a son of the late Emilio & Desideria Reyes Chavez. He married Terrie Chavez (Garcia) from Austin, TX. David attended Taylor Elementary & Allen Middle School. As a young man, David worked as a farm hand in the Taylor area. After moving to Austin, David worked at Martin’s Drive Inn off Webberville Rd. From there, he moved on to Capitol Aggregate as a cement driver and plant manager for over 20 years. David went on to work for the City of Austin- Street & Bridge Division until his retirement in 2013.
David’s favorite pastimes included DJ’ing, drag racing at Little River Academy- loved his Plymouths, dancing, drinking a cold Miller Lite (bottle please) all while reminiscing about the past. He enjoyed competitive washers, practiced sarcasm religiously and loving on his grand and great-grand babies. An avid fan of the University of Texas Longhorns & Dallas Cowboys, David could never pass up a “square”. David was also a devoted member of the Order of the Moose, Austin Moose Lodge #1735 for over 20 years and held the highest honors of Governor, Pilgrim and Legionnaire. His fundraising efforts for community projects never went unnoticed. David’s passion for the Moose Lodge and travel led him to attend various Moose conventions throughout the years. His knack for style, his love for Stacy Adams and zoot suits made David the envy of many.
Above all, David was the type of man, that if you needed help, he was there. If he had something you needed, it was yours. He never said “No”. All this is attributed to his great family values and his humble beginnings. David also loved being the life of the party, telling jokes and his contagious laugh made him a pleasure to be around. David never met a stranger; everyone was a friend.
He is survived by his devoted wife of over 30 years Terrie Chavez; sons David Chavez (Gina), Gabriel Guerreo (Irene), Marcos Guerrero (Jasmine) and daughter Rachel Guerrero (Ustacio); 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Adam Chavez and sister Rosa Medina.
