Curtiss Ruth Waggoner was born on February 10, 1941, in Austin, Texas, to Woody O. and Edith “Ophelia” (McDavid) Waggoner. He was married to Sheila Jo Hoffman on March 19, 1960. Curtiss was the love of Sheila’s life. He was a special man to many people, especially to each member of his extended family.
Curtiss passed away at home shortly after midnight on February 1, 2022, with his family nearby. He bravely fought cancer for over 20 years.
He graduated from McCallum High School (Austin) in 1959 and joined the Texas National Guard immediately. As a Private, he went on to six months of active-duty training. His military duty to the country he loved began at that time. After Officer Candidate School in 1963, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and retired as a Colonel in 1991. His dual BS degree was earned in Management/Human Resources and Social Psychology, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1993 from Park College in Parkville, Missouri.
In civilian life, Curtiss worked for Huntsman Chemical (Jefferson Chemical then Texaco Chemical) before retiring with 40 years of service in 2001.
In 1989, he and Sheila moved from Austin to the Blue/McDade area where his family roots are deep.
Curtiss was preceded in death by his parents, Woody and Ophelia Waggoner. He is survived by his wife Sheila; one son, George (his wife, Trudy); two grandsons, Wyatt and Mason of Willis, Texas; and one brother, Morris Dean of Lexington, Texas.
He loved his family, his church, his ranch, and his Beefmaster cattle. The family dogs (Cisco and Missy) were like four-legged children and they miss him.
