Collie Lee Murray

Collie Lee Murray was born April 12,1931 in Smiley, Texas, to Paul Augustus Murray and Florence Lee. He had one Sister, Winnie Ruth Murray Lansford.  He died on July 27, 2024, 93 years old. He was a devoted Son, Husband, Army Veteran, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great-Great-Grandfather, Friend, State Meat Inspector, Mason, Shriner, Mayor & City Manager. He was loved and respected by all.   He was married and devoted to Nancy Murray for 48 years… In Collies younger years he managed and ran a meat market in Nixon, Texas… for 6 years. Then he moved his family to San Antonio, Texas and worked as a Meat Market Assistant Manager while raising his family.  Next adventure was a family move to Austin, Texas – he worked for the Health Dept in the Veterinary Public Health Division for 33 years.  He was a Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriner while residing in Austin.  He was a life member of the VFW, Post 8787 where he held the Commander position.  After retiring, the next chapter he and Nancy moved back to Nixon where he served as Mayor and City Manager of Nixon, Texas for 12 years.  He attended the First Baptist Church in Nixon where he was an active member for many years.  He was also an active member of the American Legion in Nixon and Bastrop, Texas.

Last cycle of life took Collie and Nancy to Bastrop, Texas to be closer to their beloved family.  He was an active member of the Senior Citizen Organization in Bastrop, Texas.

The group he loved as his children are Johnny Howard Johnson, Randy Joe Murray (Pamela Murray), Tracie Murray Miller (Howard Miller), Terry Lynn Murray (Laura Murray), Tammie Murray Branson (Alan Branson), Kay Lynn Johnson (Gayle Moir).

He enjoyed his growing family…and thrived for the family get togethers and celebrations… having relationships and conversations with his adult Children, sharing ice cream and fun with his Grands… He was best known as “PaPa Collie”.

Collie’s last time period on this earth was surrounded by his devoted family, he was well loved and will deeply be missed… His Faith and Belief in our Lord and Savior gives the family much comfort. Knowing where he is in God’s arms and reunited with loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, he would like donations to be made to the Bastrop Animal Shelter, 589 Cool Water Dr, Bastrop, TX 78602.

A Graveside service will be held at 2pm on Friday August 2 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 N Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
