Chester Alexander

June 3, 1939 — April 7, 2017

On April 7, 2017, Deacon Chester Oneil Alexander heard the voice of Jesus and left his earthly Tabernacle for his heavenly home.

Chester Oneil Alexander was born June 3, 1939 in Cedar Creek TX. (Bastrop County)

to the  late Dock Mack Alexander and Lillie Bell Slaughter Alexander. His parents and brothers, Robert Edward, Milton, T.C, John Otis, George and Mack Ray proceeded him in death.

He attended Hopewell school in Cedar Creek TX. He participated in all sports and always bragged about what a good baseball player he was.

In 1960 he married the love of his life Margaret Smith Alexander. They were blessed with five children, Douglas, Debra, Beverly, Wanda and Brenda and carries the precious title of “grandparents”.

Chester accepted Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Bethany Baptist Church by the late Rev. Mack Robinson, where he remained a faithful member until his health failed.  In 1991, he was ordained as a Deacon by Rev. Don G. Cyphers.  Chester was an active member in his church, brotherhood, bible study, and even tried blending his voice with the male chorus. Additionally, he served as chairman of Trustees. His life was exemplified by the words of John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life . While Chester was a man of few words, he loved taking on whatever tasks he was assigned. Chester’s service to his Lord and Savior will remain in the lives of all who knew him.

Chester worked in State Government for many years serving under Governors, Preston Smith, Dolph Briscoe and Bill Clements. He also worked for the State Comptroller of Public Account and Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock. He was honored and recognized for 25 years of dedicated and loyal service to the State of Texas and to Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock. In 1995, after retiring from the Lieutenant Governor Office, gardening and antiquing became his hobbies. While traveling and shopping for antiques, he made many friend throughout the fifty states. He and Margaret were featured on the TV show Antiques Warriors.

Chester leaves to cherish his memories; his devoted wife of 57 years. Son, Douglas (Trisha) Alexander, Daughters; Debra, Natalie and Beverly Alexander, Wanda (Lucius) Hill, Brenda Lee, Tonya (Tilghman) Nalle . Brother; Frank (Cora) Alexander of Cedar Creek, TX.  Sisters; Mary Jo McDonald of Cedar Creek, TX, and Delois Warren of Ft. Worth, TX. Sister in Laws, Myrtle Ruth Alexander, Leslie Prescott and Mary Thomas, and cherished friends, Louis Green Jr. and Rick Nalle. PaPa will forever be missed by his grandchildren: Brittany, Jasmine, Lakenya, LaBresha,  Shameika (Keith) McDade, Reggie and Lawrence.

In addition, his Great Grand Children, who he loved very much and spent much time supporting their endeavors. Kamry, Til & Cason Nalle, Dontae Woodard, Anthony, Kevon, Camille, Reginae & Brennan Alexander, Brianna McDade, Quincy Nolan, Larry and, Zaylen Penson. Heaven & Tamara Crawford, Delilah, J’Niiyah, and Jay’Dah Rayos. He will remain in the hearts of his nieces, nephews other relatives, and numerous friends far and near.

A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, April 14, 2017, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Chester’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15 th , First Baptist Church of Elgin. He will be laid to rest in the Wright Cemetery, Cedar Creek, TX.
