Cherrie Ann Coleman

June 30, 1956 — October 24, 2018

Cherrie Ann Coleman, age 62, of Austin, Texas passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

Cherrie Coleman was born June 30, 1956 in Austin, Texas to Alvin Porter and Molly Brown Porter.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. In her later years she professed her love for Christ.

Cherrie attended Austin public schools, graduating from Johnston High. Shortly afterwards, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1975, where she was stationed at Quantico, VA and was honorably discharged. After returning home, she attended college and worked towards her nursing degree. Cherrie worked for the City of Austin for over eight years. She went on to pursue her passion in healthcare. Additionally, she worked at Del Valle ISD for ten years as a special education bus monitor. She spent the last 15 years doing what she truly loved, working in home healthcare at Kennar Residential, working with adults with special needs.

In her spare time, Cherrie was a pool shark, loved to dance, play dominoes, listened to the blues, cook and spend time with family. On any given day, you could always rest assured of her speaking her mind and telling you “exactly” how she felt and where you could go, if you didn’t like it.
She had a huge love for family and friends and showed many people love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Waymon Clark and her sister Brenda Porter.

She leaves to cherish her memories her two children, Florence Ne’Tonya Porter and Billy Coleman along with her four God children Arthur Waldon, Paris Waldon, Marcell Waldon, Jeremy Waldon and a step-daughter Sheri Miller. Her sisters Gloria Mason, Debra Porter, Hope Davis, Starla Benford and Alvina Porter. Her grandchildren Da’rek Roberson, Albert Price, Maziah Porter, Qweveon Wray, Neven Coleman, Genesis Coleman, Josiah Coleman, Billy Coleman II, and a host of God grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Cherrie’s Life will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 3, 2018 Grant AME Worship Center, 1701 Kramer Lane Austin, Texas 78758. Interment to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
