Betty Jean Samuelson Lundgren, age 93, was born on February 15, 1931, in the Type community to parents August and Mollie Samuelson. The Lord called her to heaven on May 2nd, 2024, just one day after the anniversary of her husband, Clyde’s passing in 1981 (43 years ago).
The blue-eyed little blonde, the youngest of 5, went to grade school at Type/Coupland school. Due to her academic excellence, Betty was able to skip the 2nd and 5th grades. She transferred to Elgin High School after her 10th-grade year to complete her education. Betty graduated as the Salutatorian of her class in 1948. On January 7th, 1952, Clyde Lundgren proposed to Betty sitting in the front seat of his 1947 slate gray club coupe parked by the backyard gate at the Samuelson homeplace. They then married 10 short days later, and the rest was history. They built a life they loved and had 3 beautiful children, Travis, Ellen, and Don.
Betty had many special titles in this life, devoted farm wife and mother, devout Christian, treasured grandma (“Nonny”), and the nickname “Bops” that was coined by Clyde, to name a few. Her life was centered around the farm, taking the “country block” every evening to see the land; she truly admired the hard work put into the crop by her two sons and grandsons. Betty had various hobbies/roles; organist at The Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 30 years, storyteller, gardener, bookkeeper, and local garage sale queen where she collected so many of her “pretties'' and “treasures”, as she would call them. Betty loved flowers, her favorite being red roses. She had a true green thumb, which is evident by the asparagus fern she has kept alive for 100 years, and is still alive to this day. Betty was all about preserving history in the present day by collecting keepsakes and archives from past times. True mementos that her family will forever cherish to keep her memory alive.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Lundgren, and daughter Ellen Farrell.
Betty is survived by her sons, Travis Lundgren and Don (Julie) Lundgren. Grandchildren – Cole (Leighton) Lundgren, Justin (Heather) Lundgren,
Jessica Lundgren, Kaylee Lundgren, Matthew (Shelly) Farrell, and JoEllen (Steve) Pedde. Great-grandchildren – Emmy Lou Lundgren, Whitlee & Willow Lundgren, Julia & Jack Farrell, and Ethan Pedde. As well as a host of other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Celebration of Life Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a graveside to follow immediately after the service at the Lund Cemetery.
