Bernice Marie (MeMe) Woolery, age 91, of Austin was called home to her eternal rest on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 surrounded by her family.
She was born May 11, 1926 in Fayetteville, Texas to Frank and Cyrilla Friedel. She was the oldest of 10 children. On October 8, 1946, she married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Woolery and from this union had six children. She was a resident of Austin for 60 years and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Bernice was always there to help others in need. She counseled individuals with drug and alcohol problems through the church ministry.
She took pride in her Czech heritage and spoke the language fluently. She enjoyed cooking and baking czech food, especially her famous homemade bread, klobásníky and kolaches.
Mom loved our dad dearly. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her happiest times were spending time with her family, especially the times at the lake on the family houseboat and cross-country trips in the motor home. One of her greatest joys was the annual family Christmas gatherings. She loved music and going country western and oom-pah dancing, especially in the small dancehalls near where she grew up.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick Woolery, parents Frank and Cyrilla Friedel, her brothers Jerome, Bobby and Leroy Friedel, sisters Agnes Reiss, Georgia Fisher and Katy Schubert.
Bernice is survived by her daughters: Debbie Driskill (and John) of Austin, Deaun Rosas (and Rick) of Pflugerville, Sons: Dickie Woolery (and June) of Austin, Bobby Woolery of Liberty Hill, Randy Woolery (and Estelle) of Elgin, and Rollie Woolery of Austin, 17 grandchildren: Becky O’ Hara (and David), Stacy Ramos, John Driskill, Shawn Driskill (and Jill), Amy Dore (and Joe), Chad Woolery (and Katrina), RC Woolery (and Stacy), Shane Woolery (and Taylor), Todd Woolery (and Therese), Josh Driskill (and Tamara), Krystal Schell, Wendy Thompson (and Dylan), Beau Woolery, Shaye Driskill, Seth Woolery, Ellen Casey and Erin Casey, 28 great grandchildren: Camden O’ Hara, Caden O’ Hara, Kieran O’ Hara, Kory Ramos, Jacob Ramos, Katy Ramos, Keller Driskill, John Paul Driskill, Cannon Driskill, Delaney Driskill, Caylee Driskill, Drewan Dore, Samantha Dore, Caroline Woolery, Camile Woolery, RC Woolery II, Madison Woolery, Ava Woolery, Audrey Woolery, Beck Woolery, Lily Driskill, Emma Driskill, Noah Schell, Alyvia Schell, Carly Thompson, Clay Thompson, Claire Thompson and Clint Thompson. brothers: Frank Friedel (and Judy) of Elgin, Bernard Friedel (and Vivian) of Plum, and Joe Friedel of Cypress and many in-laws, cousins, nephews, neices and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, John Driskill, Shawn Driskill, Chad Woolery, RC Woolery, Shane Woolery and Todd Woolery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Josh Driskill, Beau Woolery, Shaye Driskill and Seth Woolery.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Father George Joseph, Deacon Larry Dunne, St. Louis Catholic Church volunteers, Mickey Supak and Scott McNultry.
A Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2018, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. Celebration of Mass Christian Burial will be held 10:00 Tuesday, April 24, 2018. St.Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin. Interment will follow in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
