Benson Joe Ray Bowen

Benson Joe Ray Bowen died peacefully at his home on March 29, 2018 with his son Tim and wife Amanda (Rosebud) by his side.

Joe was born in Elgin on October 9, 1938 to Oleta Scott Bowen and Chester Bowen.  Joe joined the Navy and served for 3 years.  Upon completing his service Joe returned to Elgin and went to work for The City of Austin Electrical Department  (Austin Energy) where he had a distinguishing 30 year career.  Joe was married to Ruby Turner also of Elgin for 43 years until her death in 2003.  Joe is preceded in death by his parents Chester and Oleta, a Sister Ruth Bowen, his wife Ruby and two grandsons.  Joe is survived by his 6 children, 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and sister Mary Bowen Killebrew.

In lieu of flowers Joe requested donations be made to Boy Scout Troop 182 in Elgin, where his son Tim is Scout Master, his Grandson Logan is an Eagle Scout, and his Grandson Lane is working towards his Eagle rank.  He was so proud of these young men.  They were his pride and Joy.

Services for Joe will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
