Benjamin John Wiedemann

April 1, 1930 — July 25, 2018

Benjamin John Wiedemann passed away on July 25, 2018. To many in his family, he was affectionately known as "Pal". He was born on April 1, 1930 to Mathilda and William F. Wiedemann in the Scott's Community near Flatonia, Texas.

Mr. Wiedemann served in the US Army at the Reserve Station at Camp Roberts, California and also served overseas in Hanau, Germany with the 7743 Engineer Supply Control Office.

Mr. Wiedemann graduated from Blinn Junior College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. He also attended Sam Houston State for one year.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved guns and pistols as a young man. He was a farmer and rancher at heart and spent almost 30 years in the grocery business in Houston, Texas.

In 1975, he married Jan Stevenson of Florida. Ben and Jan did much traveling in their earlier years together. They traveled to Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Scotland, Canada, England, Alaska and many other places in the United States.

Mr. Wiedemann returned to Elgin, Texas after retirement to enjoy farming and gardening.  He was a member of the Elgin Garden Club for many years and also the Rose Society.  He was also an ordained Elder and Associate Pastor in the Grace Communion International Church. He also served in the Family Christian Fellowship Church in Austin and Bible Studies in Bryan, Texas.

Mr. Wiedemann was preceded in death by his father William F. Wiedemann, his mother Mathilda Wiedemann, and two older brothers, William C. Wiedemann, and James H. Wiedemann.  He is survived by his wife, Jan Wiedemann, sister Sylvia Schellberg, and nieces Marcella Woods, Cindy Aguilar, Sheila Foster, Jennifer Ochoa and Andrea Schellberg.

Mr. Wiedemann was laid to rest privately in the Young’s Prairie Cemetery.
