Archie F. Elmore passed away at his home in Elgin, Texas, on Sunday, May 13 th . He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Geralyn Elmore, and left us just one day after the couple celebrated their 30 th wedding anniversary. Archie was born on Sept 23, 1954 in Ozona, Texas. After his formative years with his two brothers in Ozona, the family moved to Dublin, Texas, in his junior year. Archie graduated from high school and went on to college at nearby Tarleton State University. He graduated in 1977, then quickly earned his master’s degree one year later at Tarleton.
Archie dedicated his work life to his love of agriculture and education, starting as a County Agent in the Agricultural Extension Service, then moving into teaching Agricultural and Life Sciences at schools throughout the state. A strong supporter of FFA and 4-H, his first date with his wife, Gerry, was at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo – an organization he strongly supported and volunteered with for years. The date worked, and he not only found a long-time partner and friend in Geralyn, at the same time he enthusiastically embraced her young children, Nathan and Sarah.
After a career of Ag Education, Archie moved into school administration – first in Fort Bend outside of Houston, then out west to Junction, Texas, just two hours from his hometown of Ozona. While his professional life was shifting, he brought his love of Ag into the family as his kids began to raise and show livestock first in 4-H in Junction, and later in FFA after the family moved to Lexington, Texas. It is then of little surprise that they later both ended up at Texas A&M.
After time as the middle school principal in Lexington, Archie became a career and technology education administrator in Round Rock ISD, where he worked until his retirement. A proud Texan, Archie left a lasting mark on the state through all of the young lives he impacted, and the many friends he made in his personal and professional life.
In addition to his wife Gerry, Archie is survived by his brothers Gary and Scott Elmore, his son Nathan and wife Kimberly and their three children Olivia, Reagan, and Eleanor, his daughter Sarah and husband Josh and their daughter Micah. Archie found great joy in his granddaughters and they loved him back. His game-playing, Cheetos-sneaking, and laughter will be missed. When the house was quieter, he doted on his two puppies, Snoopy and Mya. Archie was preceded in death by his parents Eula Dean and Leonard Doyle Elmore.
A service to celebrate Archie’s life will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Elgin, 205 West 2 nd Street, Elgin TX with Jason Huddleston officiating.
