Amos Wenzel

July 7, 1947 — December 29, 2020

Amos Jimmie Wenzel, 73 years of age, passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at home, surrounded by family after a year-long battle with cancer.

Amos was born on July 7 th , 1947, to Hugo and Lizzie Wenzel in Sharp, Texas, the 7 th of 9 children.  He was drafted to the Army and served 2 years from 1966-1968.  Amos then spent time in Houston and Austin, settling in Elgin to raise his family while farming various crops.  In his later years, after grandkids softened his tough skin, he took pride in showing each of them off in any way he could.

Amos is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, parents Hugo and Lizzie, and brothers Carol and Wilbert Lee.

He is survived by his 3 children; Hugh (wife Michelle) Wenzel, Darrell (wife Cheryl) Wenzel, Amy (husband Jonathan) Richter, grandchildren; Jacob, Grady, Hayley, Megan, Hayden, Reagan, Rylan, Rylee and Rainey.  He is also survived by siblings; Delaris Barclay, Randolph Wenzel, Kenneth Wenzel, Thomas (Dotty) Wenzel, David (Pearl) Wenzel, Marjorie (Terry) Robbins and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Providence Jones Family Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 at 1:00 pm at New Sweden Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manor, Texas with interment to follow at Bushdale Cemetery in Rockdale, Texas.
